Update notes via Steam Community

Hello everybody. Happy Steam Sale Season.

The Year of the Horse edition. Every FlashBoss language pack has been re-edited. Over the last weeks each line has been taken apart and rebuilt to a higher, more consistent standard:

  • The German pack was reviewed tier by tier.
  • Italian and Esperanto were rebuilt from the ground up.
  • Spanish now teaches the Latin American standard, with the Spanish-only words marked as such.
  • The English courses gained cleaner translations in every interface language.

Your progress is safe. FlashBoss migrates your deck as you play: a cluster you are working on keeps its cards until you defeat its boss, then the improved cards take their place. A tier whose layout changed updates as a whole when you finish it. Nothing you have studied is lost, and you never have to start over.

Swahili, as promised. In the last update I said the Swahili definitions would be matched to real vocabulary in your learning language. That's done, for all 3,000 words and in all six interface languages. A card now says "lion", "Löwe", "león", "ライオン", "狮子" or "лев". The old riddles weren't thrown away: in a boss fight, the question is the plain word, and your master gives you the riddle as a hint. Translate: lion! — "the great maned cat that rules the bush."

Nominated for the TOMMI. FlashBoss is nominated for the TOMMI Games Award 2026. In the jury's words, the game "wraps language learning in a surprisingly entertaining role-playing setting", and it is "precisely this unusual combination of language training and role-playing that sets the app apart from traditional learning tools." Thank you to the jury, and to every one of you who has been studying with us.

A much faster start. We found a bug that had been slowing down launch times. Every launch ran its checks, its cloud save sync and its update work two times over. My mistake. The difference is biggest on Windows and on older machines. On top of that, Swahili and Latin now speak faster, closer to the pace you'll hear from real speakers. FlashBoss is built to run on older machines. If you find the audio generation too slow, please open Help & Options and select 2, Audio Cache Manager.

Smaller things you'll notice:

  • Victory screens speak your language all the way through, from the banner to the summary.
  • The Guide has Russian cluster names.
  • On Windows, Japanese and Chinese players get their own console font, set up automatically.

The sale. FlashBoss and its language packs are on sale: 25% off all eligible releases. Swahili Core, The Guide, Latin Core and Latin Pareto missed the sale. Bundle discounts apply additionally to the steam sale discount.

Thank you for the ongoing support, and best wishes with your learning endeavors.
