DOMFC v0.93: Mega Optimization Phase 1
The work behind the scenes is starting to show on the pitch.
Since late August, Director of Management: Football Club has been through one of its biggest periods of change yet.
We have rebuilt systems, cut memory use, strengthened saves, expanded modding, added a new way to play, improved the football world, and started a wider facelift of the game.
Now v0.93 brings that work together with Mega Optimization Phase 1.
And this is only Phase 1.
A Faster, Lighter DOMFC
The biggest focus of v0.93 is performance.
Large football worlds have always been one of DOMFC's biggest strengths. They are also one of the hardest parts of the game to run well.
We have gone deep into how the game handles that world.
Player data kept ready in memory now takes about one fifth of the space it used before.
Transfers and Players screens that could struggle with every league loaded now open much faster. Returning to them is faster too.
New career setup has also been cut down. Club selection no longer needs to load the same heavy data twice, so getting from your league choices to your club is much quicker.
Long sessions have received more work as well. Memory that used to build up over time is now cleared as you play. Saving uses less working memory, and very large careers are less likely to hit memory limits.
This work is not finished.
v0.93 is Mega Optimization Phase 1. More optimization will follow.
The DOMFC Facelift Has Started
The stadium is still open, but the renovation work has begun.
DOMFC is getting a wider interface facelift, and parts of that new direction are already in v0.93.
Menus are cleaner. Panels are more consistent. Tabs work together better. Navigation is easier to follow.
You can collapse sections of the side menu and move pages into the order you want. Back and Forward navigation makes it easier to move between screens.
Continue, Fast-forward and Holiday now show clear progress while the game works. Loading screens use the same progress style across the game.
Transfers have also been reorganized into clearer tabs, while many screens now share the same layout rules.
This is not the final version of the facelift.
Some screens are further along than others, and more changes are coming as we continue the work.
Modding Takes a Huge Step Forward
Modding is becoming a much bigger part of DOMFC.
Mods can now reach far deeper into the football world.
Creators can add or change clubs, leagues, cups, stadiums, players, staff, nations, cities, regions, confederations, national team tournaments, formations, roles, sponsors, referees, media outlets and more.
Many of these changes can also be brought into a career you are already playing.
Mods can remove clubs from active play, merge leagues, retire competitions, close stadiums and change the football status of territories while keeping their history intact.
Mod packs can now bundle several mods and their images together.
Custom crests, player and staff faces, flags, stadium pictures, competition logos and national team badges can also be added without changing the career itself.
The goal is simple: give the community far more control over its football world.
A New Way to Play: Manager Mode
DOMFC started with the Director of Management role at its center.
v0.93 adds another way in.
You can now start a career as a Manager.
As Manager, you handle the football side of the club. Tactics, training, team selection and the press are yours.
The club handles the business around you, including transfers, contracts, sponsors and finances.
You can ask for signings, staff, facilities and budget changes while the people above you make the final calls.
It is a different career with a different balance of power.
Careers Built to Last
A lot of work since August has focused on one thing that matters more than almost anything else:
Your career needs to survive.
Saving and loading huge worlds has been rebuilt and improved. Damaged saves can recover from the previous good version. Older saves are handled more safely. Loading an autosave no longer risks replacing the wrong career.
Season changes have received more protection too. The game now avoids saving a half-finished season end, and an error during an advance can stop cleanly instead of carrying broken state forward.
You can also keep playing after being sacked. Losing a job does not have to mean losing the career.
These changes matter most after dozens of seasons, when that save is no longer just a file.
It is your club's history.
A Bigger Football World
The football world itself has changed heavily since the August builds.
Club, competition and stadium data has been expanded and corrected across many countries.
Women's football has received major work, with more clubs, leagues and corrected competition structures.
Promotion and relegation systems have been improved across football pyramids. Special league formats work more reliably. National teams have received more depth. More clubs begin careers with proper squads and staff.
Player profiles have also grown much deeper, with better role information, recent form, per-90 statistics, competition splits, season histories and more.
League, scouting, medical, training, finance and match screens now give you more information about what is happening inside your club and around the world.
Still Building
v0.93 is a big update, but it is not us planting a flag and saying the work is finished.
The optimization work is still under way.
The facelift is still under way.
Modding will keep growing.
The football database will keep improving.
There are hundreds of individual additions, changes and fixes behind this update. Rather than stop development to polish a finish line that does not exist yet, we are continuing to build DOMFC in public.
Mega Optimization Phase 1 is here.
The renovation continues.
