Update notes via Steam Community

We’re releasing Royalty Free-For-All’s first major update in Version 1.1.0. We’ve been hard at work making gameplay and performance as tight as possible this past month, which you can read all about in previous patch notes. Today, we’re making some big changes. You can learn all about them in the video above, and dive into some finer details in the notes below.

We’re adding physics modifiers for gravity, movement, knockback speed, you name it! This new submenu works just like our existing Rules presets, with eight pre-made files you can customize and rename to your liking. We’ve overhauled our systems for Item Toggles and Random Stage Lists to work in the exact same way, so you can create perfect loadouts for all three features and mix and match them when setting your rules.

We have settings for fast-paced combat, fights on the slower and floatier side, “hi-jump,” and even four fun minigames. But, the sky’s the limit with your own preferences.

If you’ve been using our default rules, our new system will work right out the gate. Unfortunately, if you have existing rules presets customized, you will have to rebuild them in our new format.

Three new alternate layouts have been added to our stage lineup. You can blow the highest roof off at Old Macdonald’s, renovate the walkoff floor into pool at the West Egg—this one’s actually the new default map—and even turn the Wayside Inn outside up down, bottom wide.      ?

All these new layouts, and our pre-existing ones, can be selected using the shoulder buttons (or Z/X on keyboard) on our Stage Select Screen.

We’ve sold just enough to release a few small updates like these, free for all players, while we work towards our dreams of releasing on home consoles. Please stay tuned for more update announcements in the near future, and don’t be shy to share what features you’d like to see next in our Discord community.

Five new fighters will be added to the game by this year’s end, bringing the roaster total to 19, through the new “Wet Floor Guys” DLC pass. The first new fighter is available today, as revealed in the video above—and not spoiled here.

This DLC pass is an exciting opportunity made possible by our game’s initial sales success, plus a little bit of forecasting on its own pricing. At just $2.99, it’s an appealing deal that most of you won’t have to worry about: every Kickstarter backer will receive one free DLC Pass as a founder’s thank-you. As always please be on the looking in your inbox and spam folder for the sender Krysta Yang.

If you love what we do and want ways to support us further simply for the love of the game, we’re opening a Ko-fi account. Further development for everyone remains our priority, so we’re just going to see where this opportunity goes rather than make a big song and dance about exclusive perks and promises and all that.

Finally, we’re welcoming beloved esports caster EE to our team as Community Manager. Our public Discord will be busier than ever as we get this ball rolling. So if you haven’t already, come say hi to our growing community! Now is an excellent time to join the fun.

By the way, we’ve been busy improving quality of life in a variety of ways, including ongoing improvements to our CPUs and QOL improvements to our online infrastructure, and a variety of niche-case bug fixes. Most notably, Bigfoot is now unlocked by default on the character select screen.

What a ride! We’ll see you again soon.
