Update notes via Steam Community

Two days ago we opened the doors of a small museum. Today we did the math, and we had to sit down for a moment.

  • ~20,000 player from 98 countries have walked through those doors.

  • Together you have spent more than 70,000 hours in the halls. That's eight years of museum shifts, in 48 hours.

  • You have placed roughly 10 million bones and raised around 80,000 skeletons.

  • 6,900 of you finished the whole collection. Every hall, every plaque, every last toe bone.

  • 8,900 of you found the cat. (The cat found the rest of you.)

  • 12,000 of you unlocked the secret camera and took something like 60,000 photos. We have seen your photo boards in Community Hub. Some of you are artists. Some of you are menaces. We love you all.

And along the way you sent us reports. You picked up bones, threw gliders at Brachiosaurus tails, lost books behind bookcases, and one of you lost a cat named Mr Mittens through the front door. We read every single one. Then we rolled up our sleeves.

This is not a small patch. This is the biggest update DinoBones has ever had: 36 fixes and features, every one of them born from your reports. Thank you. Now let's celebrate.

🐈 Mr Mittens is safe

  • The front door no longer eats crates, bones or cats. We sealed every gap in the museum, from the archway above the door to the roof. Nothing escapes into the void anymore.

  • The cat no longer gets trapped behind exhibit ropes. If it ever gets stuck, it quietly finds its way back while you're not looking.

  • New: when you enter the workshop, the cat waits for you by the door and follows you around when you come out. Yes, it's as cute as it sounds.

📦 Crates behave now

  • Clicking a small bone inside a crate picks up THE BONE, not the crate. Finally.

  • Crates wedged inside a skeleton (looking at you, Spinosaurus skull) free themselves again.

  • Crates now tell you when they can be smashed, and when you still need the hammer.

🪶 Nothing gets lost anymore

  • Glider stuck on a ledge? Fell under a display? Open the Q menu, pick it, and it's back in your hand. Wherever it was.

  • Books never vanish again. Drop one anywhere and it sparkles until you pick it up. Lost a book in an older save? It's back on its shelf.

  • Coins you dropped keep sparkling after you load your game.

  • Calling bones with the field book now also pulls the last bone out of a nailed crate. No more skeletons stuck at 98%.

✨ Quality of life

  • Long bone names wrap onto two lines. The number at the end is always visible.

  • Prefer to play without hints? Press Z to hide the expertise window. Purists, rejoice.

  • The museum's rain ambience is a little softer. Your ears sent feedback too.

💾 Saving, clearly

  • A rare bug that could lock the coin press forever after saving is fixed, and old saves heal themselves on load.

  • Friendly reminder: DinoBones has no autosave by design. Press Save in the pause menu (Esc) or choose Save and quit before you leave. Closing the window does not save.

🏆 And the small things

  • The duplicate Tab button in the HUD is gone. One Tab to rule them all.

  • Coins that aren't ready to be collected yet now show a card instead of ignoring your clicks.

Keep the reports coming (Report button in the pause menu). You're the best co-curators a museum could ask for.

See you in the halls,
