This build is about playing together and about the machines you haul with: ride in the skidsteer bucket, a semi that can finally pull, a trailer that stays upright, and a wheelbarrow that fills itself.
Ride in the bucket
- You can stand in the skidsteer bucket and be lifted. An invisible box that used to hold you a foot above the floor is gone, the inside of the bucket is now a proper tub, and you stay planted while the driver curls it.
- Climbing in no longer makes the arm twitch.
- Everyone sees the bucket curl. Other players used to see the skidsteer bucket stutter or not move at all.
- Dirt stays in the skidsteer bucket. Chunks no longer poke out through the back of the bucket.
- The skidsteer arm has its strength back. It had quietly lost most of its lifting and pushing power in the last build.
- Excavator arms move for everyone, including for players who join late.
Semi truck and trailer
- The semi can pull. Hidden drag was eating almost all of its power and it was riding on invisible balls instead of its tyres. It now has a proper diesel and a five-speed box: strong off the line, heavy to get going, and tops out a little below the LandCruiser.
- The trailer is balanced. Its weight sat more than two metres off the ground, which is why it tipped so easily. It now sits low like a real flatbed, rests level on its legs, and no longer rides on invisible balls either.
- The trailer no longer drags like an anchor when hitched.
- The semi has its control prompts, including T to hitch or unhitch and R to reset.
- The trailer can no longer be entered, and pressing E next to it no longer leaves you on a black screen.
- Flipped the trailer? Walk up to it and press R. It now actually listens to the key. Works on the trailer only.
- The floating debug spheres on the hitch are gone.
Wheelbarrow
- It collects dirt for you. Push it past loose dig chunks and they float up and drop into the tub. They ride loose in the tub without flying out on every turn, and each chunk gives 1 or 2 XP when it lands.
- It no longer disappears under the ground after a server restart or when left in the dig pit with nobody nearby.
- You can always let go. Pressing F while holding it always releases it, and you can no longer get stuck walking into a wheelbarrow you cannot reach.
- Your hands land on the handles the same way every time you pick it up.
Interacting
- The thing F will use lights up gold. When several items are in reach, only the closest one is highlighted, and F now uses just that one. It used to act on everything within reach in a single press.
- The wheelbarrow's label fades out while you push it and comes back when you let go.
- Meet Gary, the Site Foreman. The quest giver now has a name tag.
Vehicles versus diggers and walls
- Digger arms no longer push vehicles from a distance. The arms carried invisible collision about a metre and a half wide.
- Wheels stop sinking into the ground or snapping up when something sits beside them. Fixed for every vehicle.
- Driving into a wall no longer launches you. Touching a wall or barrier used to throw the skidsteer upward and empty the bucket. It still climbs over dig edges.
- The LandCruiser has real bump stops, and the skidsteer bucket collides with its body again.
Sound and menus
- The LandCruiser has an engine: a start-up sound and an idle that follows the revs.
- The dump truck's engine follows the revs and blips on each gear change.
- Quit from the pause menu returns you to the main menu instead of closing the game.
Please try
- Two players: one drives the skidsteer, the other stands in the bucket. Lift, drive, curl.
- Hitch the trailer, load it, and drive the semi up a slope and around tight corners. Tell us if it still tips.
- Push the wheelbarrow through a pile of dig chunks, take some sharp turns, then tip it out.
- Stand between the shovel and the wheelbarrow and check that the gold highlight and F agree.
- Drive the skidsteer into a flat wall with a full bucket.
Known
- Dig chunks can sit in slightly different places for different players after they tumble.
- Standing in the excavator bucket is less reliable than the skidsteer bucket.
- The LandCruiser has no gear-change sound yet.
